What is a Professional Organizer?

Professional Organizers support and empower change, helping you to set achievable goals which then turn into life-changing actions. They help you work though areas of life that are challenging and set realistic goals to organize your time, your home, or your workspace. A professional organizer is someone who assists you in creating organized systems, teaches organizing skills, and makes a plan to help you live more simply and efficiently. They help you overcome clutter and disorganization to make your life less stressful. They are there to help make your life easier!

Why hire a Professional Organizer?

A professional organizer not only helps you organize your mess, but they also create easy-to-follow systems to help keep it that way. They can assist you through the entire process or do everything themselves, depending on what you want. They will sit, sort, clean, file, and  de-clutter, which will help make your home or office a more functional, peaceful place to live. They bring a level of expertise and an objective eye to your situation, and will guide you in making decisions about things that are cluttering your life. They can help you figure out where you are and get you to where you want to be! When you hire a professional organizer, you are making a commitment and taking steps toward creating the environment you want to live in. Simply said, it is an investment in your future.

What difference does it make to be organized?

You will find yourself having less stress when you know where everything is located (which also saves time and huge headaches!) Being disorganized is expensive, because it hinders your productivity and costs you time when you can’t find what you need, when you need it. Your environment has a huge impact on your attitude and outlook on life. When it’s in disarray, that affects how you feel – the outward chaos affects what you are feeling inwardly. It is so much easier to function when your living or working space is neat, clean, and orderly.

What is Chronic Disorganization?

The ICD (Institute for Challenging Disorganization) defines Chronic Disorganization (CD) with these three criteria:

  • Chronic, persistent disorganization that has lasted over a long period of time, with a past history of failed self-help efforts.
  • Disorganization that undermines your quality of life on a daily basis.
  • An expectation of disorganization continuing into the future.

We all have times in our lives when we or a loved one have suffered from an illness, while others struggle through a deep loss or are working through a divorce. These types of overwhelming situations can put us in a place of being ‘situationally’ disorganized, and a professional organizer can provide much needed support. However, when the quality of your life suffers on a daily basis and you feel utterly overwhelmed all the time, you might find yourself to be chronically disorganized. We find it a privilege to come alongside those affected by either life transitions or CD, and are constantly growing in our knowledge, training and experience in this area.

Do you require me to work with you in organizing my space?

Absolutely not! If you don’t want to touch a thing you don’t have to. But most projects require decisions that only you can make, and being available while the work is being done is necessary. In working side by side, not only will the job get completed more quickly, we will be able to educate you along the way on how to have a more organized lifestyle.

How do I get started?

Simply contact us and describe what you need help with, and any other details you’d like to include. We will then get back to you and we can go from there.

What takes place at the initial meeting, which is called the Consultation?

We will come to your home, or talk with you by phone so we can evaluate the project(s) and formulate a plan of action. We will discuss what problems you are currently having, what has been working, and what you would like to see change.

Will you be flexible and able to work around my schedule?

We are here to work with you and your schedule! We often work during the weekdays, but make ourselves available on weekends, as needed.

How long will it take?

This all depends on your schedule, whether we are working one-on-one or with a team, and how quickly you are able to make decisions about your stuff. If you are willing to do some “homework” in between work sessions, the process will go faster, take less time and be less expensive. Many clients have years of accumulation in their spaces and so it takes several work sessions to accomplish organizing goals. We will help you figure out what you need to get there.

Will I stay organized?

We will work along with you to teach you skills and the new habits you will need to maintain order in the organizing systems we put into place. If you have trouble staying organized and need more motivation after our hands-on work is done, we offer maintenance appointments. These can be customized to your schedule and budget, depending upon your particular need.

Will my information be kept confidential?

Absolutely. We recognize that clutter and disorder are personal and so we respect each client’s privacy. All meetings, conversations, and questions are held in strict confidence. What if I only need you for a few hours?

That’s no problem! You can hire us on an hourly basis, with a three-hour minimum work session. Please note though, it usually takes repeated hands-on time together to achieve lasting change.

What payments are accepted?

We accept cash or checks, and payment is due at the end of each day. We also offer ‘Package Rates”, which are discounted larger blocks of hours. Although these must be paid in full before work sessions start, some clients prefer not having to pay as they go along, and save some money in the process!
